Yinka Shonibare in room full of his works

Congratulations to Yinka Shonibare CBE, who has been named the Anderson Ranch Arts Center's 2022 International Artist Honoree. Shonibare will be celebrated during the Ranch's annual Recognition Week at a series of events, culminating in the Gala Dinner and Benefit Auction on Thursday, July 14th. Shonibare’s interdisciplinary practice uses citations of Western art history and literature to question the validity of contemporary cultural and national identities within the context of globalization. Through examining race, class, and the construction of cultural identity, his works comment on the tangled interrelationship between Africa and Europe, and their respective economic and political histories.
