Please join us at 291 Grand St on October 5, 2024 at 2 PM for an exhibition walkthrough of Mestre Didi, led by Bernardo Mosqueira. The show features twelve totemic multimedia sculptures by the late Brazilian artist, Mestre Didi (Salvador, Bahia, 1917-2013) and is on view through October 26, 2024. Mestre Didi is presented in collaboration with Simōes de Assis.
Bernardo Mosqueira (Rio de Janeiro, 1988) is a curator and writer based in New York. He is chief curator at the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA), in New York; founder and artistic director of Solar dos Abacaxis, in Rio de Janeiro (since 2015); and director of the Prêmio FOCO ArtRio, Rio de Janeiro (since 2012). Between 2021 and 2023, Mosqueira was the ISLAA Curatorial Fellow at the New Museum. His recent exhibitions include “Wynnie Mynerva: The Original Riot” (New Museum, 2023); “Pepón Osorio: My Beating Heart/ Mi corazón latiente” (co-curated with Margot Norton, New Museum, 2023); “Eros Rising: Visions of the Erotic in Latin American Art” (co-curated with Mariano López Seoane, ISLAA, 2022); and “Daniel Lie: Unnamed Entities” (New Museum, 2022). In 2021, he was part of the curatorial team for the fifth New Museum Triennial “Soft Water Hard Stone.” Mosqueira holds a master's degree in curatorial studies (CCS Bard, 2021).
