Congratulations to Byron Kim, who will receive the 2022 Medal for Painting from the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture during their 2022 Awards Dinner on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. This honor will be presented by fellow artist Glenn Ligon.
Byron Kim attended Skowhegan in 1986 and has twice served on its faculty. Skowhegan is an intensive nine-week summer residency program for emerging visual artists established in 1946. Skowhegan seeks each year to bring together a diverse group of individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to artmaking and inquiry, creating the most stimulating and rigorous environment possible for a concentrated period of artistic creation, interaction, and growth. Located on a historic 350-acre farm in rural Maine, the campus serves as a critical component of the program.
The Awards Dinner is Skowhegan’s largest annual fundraiser, and the funds raised ensure that Skowhegan is able to support exceptional artists from many backgrounds through an application process that guarantees financial assistance for all accepted artists.
