Join the Moody and visual artist Byron Kim, featured in the Artists and the Rothko Chapel exhibition, for a conversation around the topic of water. Kim will engage with specialists from other fields to reflect on how many of his paintings evoke the ocean, notably a series of new works created for the exhibition and shown at the Moody for the first time.
Kim will discuss how his use of chromatic abstraction has been informed by his viewing of the Rothko Chapel, or the 19th century whaling paintings by British artist J.M. William Turner. As this season's Leslie and Brad Bucher Artist-in-Residence, Kim will also talk about his engagement with Rice and the larger Houston community.
The conversation will be led by Frauke V. Josenhans, Associate Curator at the Moody, and will take place via Zoom.
