James Cohan will host an exhibition walkthrough of Hurukuro with Virginia Chihota and Augusto Arbizo on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 3:30 PM, followed by an opening reception from 4-6 PM. This event is presented in conjunction with Hurukuro, a new exhibition of work by Anthony Bumhira and Virginia Chihota, curated by Augusto Arbizo, on view from March 1 through April 5, 2025, at the gallery’s 52 Walker Street location.

Virginia Chihota (b. 1983, Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe) graduated in Fine Arts from the National Art Gallery Workshop School in Harare, Zimbabwe in 2006. Chihota represented Zimbabwe at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 and was awarded the Prix Canson in the same year. In 2021, her works were commissioned by the Opéra National de Paris, France for Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida. Chihota will be the subject of upcoming solo exhibitions at Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Sevilla, Spain (2026) and Museum Zutphen, Zutphen, Netherlands (2025).

Augusto Arbizo is an art advisor and curator with the New York art advisory firm of Schwartzman&, New York. He was the director of the LES gallery Eleven Rivington from 2007-2017, where he organized over 100 exhibitions; and a partner at Van Doren Waxter from 2018-2021. Arbizo’s curatorial projects have included exhibitions for White Columns; Rachel Uffner Gallery; and Chapter, NY, among others.
