Our second Feature on the 2020-2021 NXTHVN Fellows centers on Alisa Sikelianos-Carter. In this video, Sikelianos-Carter examines her multi-media work Meet Me on The Other Side (2021), through the lens of her role as a world-builder and mythology-maker. Sikelianos-Carter's works often depict powerful, mythical figures with Black hairstyles, which she refers to as “galactic portraits of Black ancestors.”
Meet Me on the Other Side is on view at in the exhibition Un/Common Proximity at James Cohan, 48 Walker Street, from June 12-August 13, 2021.
