In this brief interview, Naudline Pierre discusses her practice from her Brooklyn studio. Continuing the art-historical tradition of portraying encounters between the earthly and the otherworldly, Pierre’s work situates personal mythology and transcendent intimacy alongside canonical narratives of devotion. She examines the rich imagery of the paintings on view at MoMA PS1 in This Longing Vessel, the three-person capstone exhibition of the 2019–2020 Studio Museum’s Artist Residency program.
