Description

This series emphasizes the mythic quality of individual migration stories, underscoring the ambition and risks taken by those seeking a better future. Myers documented the experiences of seasonal farmworkers in Kent and Ottawa counties, Michigan.

Myers connects these seasonal migrant journeys to the myth of Persephone, the Greek goddess of agriculture. The title Thesmophoria (Blueberries) refers to a three-day festival honoring Persephone, where young women would sleep in fields hoping for fertility. This ritual highlights Persephone's dual role as a deity of fertility and the underworld, linking life and death through her migration.
